The cost of following Christ is high. It requires one’s calculated choice to give up everything, including his own life, and carry his cross to be Christlike. The price is so high Christ used, not one, but two illustrations to bring home the point: this is not something to take lightly. And with that, Christ admonishes all who considers this high calling to do one very important thing: count the cost. For those who went before us and took on this calling and in the end heard Christ Himself said, “Well done, good and faithful servant!”, the cost was nothing compared to the joy of Christ’s kingdom.
